Around the world transition has become more difficult in times of economic crisis especially for young people. Against this background the Adecco Institute, in cooperation with the Shanghai Academy of Social Science (SASS), held a conference to examine and compare the transition process in China and Europe from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Making the break from school to work

A better integration of youth into the workforce will be assisted by nvestments in education and training and the acquisition of transferable skills. Slower rates of GDP growth and therefore job creation make the challenge of transitioning from education into work that much harder, as new entrants get used to an era where "jobs for life" no longer exist and transferable skills are the currency for employment.
